Assignment 6
Assignment 5
For Assignment 5 we were asked to work with the facades of our studio project. I have developed my facade in sketch up then taken into Illustrator and added line weights, shadows and some people to make it a more dynamic drawing. I’m not 100% happy with these elevations but after the final review I’m going to make some tweaks to it.
Assignment 4
This assignment is focusing on sections at different scales. First is the section of our site, it includes the context of the surrounding buildings along with the park blocks. I used the Sketch Up model of our site and added my current building model into it. I then cut a section through the site and exported the image. In Illustrator I cleaned up the exported Sketch Up file and changed line weights to convey what is being cut through vs what is in the background. I Filled in the background buildings to further emphasis the buildings that are being cut through and added a thick base. Then I added some trees to where the park blocks are to show the relationship of the academy to the park block. I then took the image into Photoshop and added a gradient to the sky to create more of a background for the section.
Next is a section at the building scale.
So finally is a section at the room scale. For the room study I chose my reception hall/secondary gallery. It is on the Second floor of my building and overlooks the park block. I created the room in Sketch Up and then cut the section. I decided to use the IDX Renditioner to render the room section and added a photo from my site visit to the background.
Assignment 3
This assignment asked us to use Sketch Up and Illustrator to create some diagrams for our site. I hope to tweak these and update them later but here’s my first pass!
We were also asked to take our site visit photos and merge them using Photoshop to create panoramic photos of our site. I took some photos from the roof deck of the neighboring building looking over our site.
I stitched together another set of photos looking down onto our site
Then to get a overall picture of our site I took the two stitched panoramas and stitched them together so you can see the entire site.
Midterms!
Greetings all you folks out there on the internets. It’s midterm review day for my studio course and as usual little sleep was had by all. I am awaiting my second review but here’s a photo of what my pin up looks like.
The studio project is an Academy of Arts in Portland, OR. The academy is designed with your choice of 1 of 4 countries, Japan, Mexico, Finland and Italy. The idea is that artists from the country are awarded fellowships to live and work in Portland for 6 months to a year. I have chosen to design my building for Finland. It’s a challenge project in many ways first of which we are working in an Urban environment with a lot of code restrictions which for most of us is pretty new. I’m enjoying it a lot now, but earlier this week I was struggling. I was working on another scheme and it was not coming together. I couldn’t get the rooms the way I wanted them and I couldn’t get the light into the building that I wanted. Then Wednesday I had a breakthrough. Then things really started to come together.
So after the review are over I’ll take all my feedback and start to refine my building. Tomorrow I’ll post some more images and information about this project when I’ve gotten some sleep!
In other news I am officially training with Team in Training for the Eugene Marathon on May 2nd. I am seeking donations to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help their mission of finding a cure for blood cancers. Please help me in the race to save lives and donate! All donations are 100% tax deductible and you can donate online it’s a secure system but if you’d prefer to mail a check just email me at lydiajchambers@gmail.com and I’ll send you all the information. I will be posting my training progress on here as well so this is both Architecture and Marathon central so STAY TUNED!
To start Anew
We are 3 weeks into Winter Quarter and it feels like week 8! They haven’t wasted anytime in assignment work and we haven’t wasted anytime losing sleep. This week we finished an assignment for our Environmental Control Systems (ECS) class that was to design a shading device for a building on campus. It was hard to get my brain around doing Trig again but I think our solution was pretty effective.
